Labor Day weekend events in Scott County

HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. — Load up the car and head to the heart of the Cumberlands this weekend for a four-day weekend full of fun for the entire family.
A number of events are scheduled around Scott County beginning Friday and continuing through Labor Day (Monday).
Friday: Brimstone Recreation's annual SXS Roundup will begin Friday morning in Huntsville and in the Cumberland Mountains behind the town. It all gets started at 9 a.m. Friday morning with registration and guided trail rides. Food will begin being served at the Half Cabin Event Area in the mountains at 10 a.m., and the Grand Vista Kids Zone will also open at Half Cabin at 10 a.m.
There will be a Pro Armor Show & Shine and a riders fellowship at 6 p.m., followed by a drive-in movie on the Huntsville town square at dusk.
Saturday: Day No. 2 of the SXS Roundup begins with vendor displays at 8 a.m. and event registration at 9 a.m. A sled pull, pole bending and obstacle event will be held at 11 a.m. at the Half Cabin Event Area, followed by a mud bog and ladies' Dash for Cash at 5 p.m., and an awards ceremony at the CAN-AM Center Stage at 6 p.m.
At 7 p.m. Saturday, country music star Tracy Lawrence will take the CAN-AM Center Stage. With hits like "Time Marches On" and "Sticks and Stones," Lawrence is one of the biggest stars to grace the Brimstone events thus far.
Also on Saturday, there will be a free gospel concert at the Bull Creek Farm neighboring Brimstone Recreation. The concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will feature the Ball Brothers, along with local talents Standing Stone and Jimmy & Sarah Byrd. A band of four brothers, the Ball Brothers have appeared with such icons as Ernie Haas and have made several appearances on the popular Gaither Homecoming Series tour. The event is located at 360 Floyd Jeffers Road just off River Road. Concessions will be available from County BBQ, a popular local barbecue vendor.
Additionally, the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area will host several interpretive programs Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and continuing until dusk. The programs include snake tales (10:30 a.m.), creek critters (2 p.m.), a hayride (7:30 p.m.) and an owl prowl (8 p.m.). Complete schedule of events and descriptions.
Sunday: The SXS Roundup at Brimstone Recreation wraps up with the ATV King of the Mountain Endurance Challenge at 9:30 a.m., followed by the SXS King of the Mountain Endurance Challenge at 1 p.m. A Moonshine Run (poker run) will begin at 7 p.m.
Interpretive events at the Big South Fork continue Sunday with an exploration of small forest critters at 10:30 a.m. and a hayride at 7:30 p.m.
Monday: With a welcomed holiday from work, local residents typically head to the Big South Fork for a swim in the river, a picnic or a leisurely stroll along some of the hundreds of miles of hiking trails featured in the park. At 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, the Big South Fork will host a nature hike to the historic Oscar Blevins Farm near Bandy Creek Visitors Center.
